Dental Assistant (Internship Program)

A crucial member of the dental healthcare team who supports dentists and dental hygienists by performing a variety of patient care and administrative tasks. In addition to traditional dental assisting duties, this role includes driving responsibilities. The driving responsibilities may include driving to various dental offices to assist with patient care, marketing/relationship building, equipment setup, and office support.

Key responsibilities (Not limited to the duties stated below, additional duties as assigned)

Patient Care

  • Provides excellent customer service with greeting and seating dental patients.

  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations and procedures. Ensure the room is cleaned and sterilized before/after each patient.

  • Prepares the patient for treatment/procedure with x-rays, charts, instruments and materials needed for the procedure.

  • Assist the dentist or dental hygienist during dental procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety.

  • Operates dental X-ray equipment and 3D scans.

  • Sterilize and maintain dental instruments and equipment.

  • Explain to patients proper oral hygiene and post-operative care instructions.

  • Assist with maintaining the dental office's inventory of supplies, ordering as needed.

Driving Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently transport equipment and supplies between different dental offices, which may include food or other perishable items (as needed).

  • Represent the company in a professional manner by maintaining a clean vehicle.

Administrative Tasks

  • Check-in patients, confirming their appointments and updating their records as needed.

  • Handle phone calls and coordinate with patients for follow-up appointments.

  • Records/writes all treatment rendered to patients by the Dr., sends accurate reports, maintains patient records and files dental charts.

  • Perform basic office tasks such as filing, data entry, and other administrative duties.

Infection Control, Safety and Compliance

  • Adhere to strict infection control protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Adhere to proper sterilization practices of all equipment and instruments.

  • Maintains the dental office in a clean and orderly manner by adhering to Daily, Weekly, Bi-weekly and Monthly protocols.

  • Follow safety guidelines and regulations to maintain a safe environment for both patients and staff.

  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations to protect the privacy of health information and the security of electronic records.

  • Understand emergency protocols.

Professional Commitment and Growth

  • Participates in company activities outside of the Dental office (ie: volunteer days)

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 18 years old or older

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

  • Knowledge of dental terminology, record keeping, procedures and instruments.

  • Proficiency in dental software and office management systems.
